Adventures in the Sunflower Patch

What do you get when you mix a tiny budget and a dash of crazy to a wedding? DIY Wedding!

So the insanity begins! Flowers are a large part of any wedding and also a large expense but I didn't have a large budget. I met with flower designers, the price was out of my range, I searched the Internet only to find, even the cheapest flowers were to expensive by the time you add shipping. After months of research I decide to do them myself. Yep I'm crazy! To keep it simple I decide to do all sunflowers, the wedding is in October after all. But where do I get mass amounts of sunflowers for cheap?????

Ah ha! My local farm!!!!!! I call the local pumpkin patch and ask the cost of their sunflowers.

The farmer says "$10 for a 5 gallon bucket and if cut long you can fit 50 to 100 stems in a bucket."

My jaw on the floor.....What??? It can't be 100 stems for $10! Happy dance!!!

The farmer: "The only thing is you have to cut them yourself."

Me:"I will see you Friday!"

Let the fun begin..... My family, being a little crazy as well, agreed that cutting sunflowers would be a great way to spend an afternoon. So we hop into Dad's truck and head to Aplin Farm with our 5 gallon buckets in hand.

3 hours, 3 buckets, $30, and a whole lot of fun later.....

Farm humor!

There were fields and fields of these!

Happy Dance!

They wanted to come along too.

It felt like I was is in a Van Gogh painting for a moment.

My dad had the best time!

Hopping a ride on the tailgate.

Ahhh if only this were in France, not lower Alabama.

$10 bucket!
Now to pack 3 buckets this full into my Honda and get them to the wedding site an hour away. (sorry no pictures of that but it was a sight!) Needless to say people were pointing at me on the interstate.

3 sisters, a bottle or 2 of wine, and a whole lot of laughs later...

We had more then enough flowers to go around!
